- World Rugby HSBC 7s Challenger 2024 Montevideo – Round One
- Result: Uganda 15-05 Thailand
Thailand beat Uganda during the two teams’ first meeting in the World Rugby 7s Challenger in Dubai at the start of the year. A comfortable 19-07 result as debutants Uganda got accustomed to playing at that level.
They were drawn in the same pool for Round Two in Montevideo, Uruguay, giving a chance for Uganda to even the scores in this contest.
And on Day One of the tournament being played at the Estadio Charrua, Uganda has done just that in the opening match. The East Africans have beaten the Asians by 15-05 in the early kickoff.

Maimuna Nassozi, Grace Auma, and captain Peace Lekuru scored Uganda’s tries. Auma and Grace Nabaggala missed all their conversion attempts. Thailand scored only one unconverted try through Dion Akwaja.
Thailand’s defence read Uganda’s plays smartly and kept the score within touching distance but they were no match for Uganda’s physicality. Their chances were dented even farther by a yellow card conceded by Nantadchaporn Yodya in the twelfth minute.

Uganda will play against Mexico in the second round. The match will kick off at 9.20 p.m. EAT.
The tournament is being broadcast live on Rugbypass TV.
