Uganda U20 Women’s National Football Team will be hoping to get a decent start to the Women’s Football Tournament at the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana.

The Queen Cranes will take to the pitch for the first time on Saturday against neighbours Tanzania at Cape Coast Stadium.

This is the first time that a Women’s competition is included at the African Games that happen every four years.

Uganda’s coach Sheryl Botes is optimistic her troops will perform well at the tournament and hopes for good results in the first game against Tanzania.

“We are happy to be here in a tournament that has attracted very good teams. Our target is to perform well and that means we must start on a good note in our first game against Tanzania,” she said.

Uganda and Tanzania are familiar foes and have faced off several times at different age categories and Botes believes she know a thing or two about what approach they will deploy.

“These two countries have faced off several times but personally I have not faced Tanzania before. However, I know their approach, they will be physical but we have prepared well enough to negotiate past that and I’m confident the girls will perform as expected.”

Uganda is in the same group as hosts Ghana, Ethiopia and Tanzania.

The top two teams in either group, progress to the semifinals. It should be noted that Cameroon withdrew from Group B, leaving only Morocco, Nigeria and Senegal.
