13th African Games (Badminton – Mixed Doubles) – Round of 16:

Mauritius (Paul G.J & Foo Kune K.) 2-0 Uganda (Expedito Emuddu & Tracy Naluwooza)

It was a hard-fought duel between Mauritius and Uganda during the round of 16 mixed doubles Badminton contest at the Bortyman sports complex in Accra, Ghana on Saturday, 9th March 2024.

Mauritius top seeds Paul G.J and Foo Kune K. won the match 2-0 over Ugandan opposition; Expedito Emuddu and Tracy Naluwooza.

The Mauritius pair combined forces to win both sets 21-13 and 21-11 during the round of 16 to advance for the quarter finals.

“We picked crucial lessons from this match having faced some of the best players on the continent. The team chemistry between me and Tracy (Naluwooza) was good but the opponents had a great day” a dejected Emuddu attested.

During the other mixed double game for Uganda; Algerian duo of Mammeri K and Mammeri T.V won 2-0 over Husinah Kobugabe and Mustapha Lubega (21-10 and 21-07) to make the quarter final grade.

Gladys Mbabazi and Owinyi also lost 2-0 over Nigerian duo of Nusa M. and Yakubu R.

Meanwhile, in the round of 16 match for the females, Mohammed Shamika Fadila beat Ghanaian Torneymor 2-0 (21-12 and 21-10) to progress to the quarter finals.

“It was a good match for me. I played relaxed to reserve my energy because there are many other matches ahead. I studied my opponent and had to use my strong points to eliminate her” Fadila noted.
