  • 13th African Games Accra, Ghana 2023 – Rugby 7s
  • Venue: University of Ghana Rugby Stadium
  • Date: March 19-21, 2024

Rugby 7s is among the twenty-three sports to be played during the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana. The sport will make its maiden appearance in the Games at the University of Ghana Rugby Park from March 19-21, 2024.

Seven men’s and five women’s national teams have pitched camp at the Games Village located inside the University of Ghana.

  • Men’s: Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya (Morans), Tunisia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
  • Women’s: Ghana, Madagascar, Nigeria, Tunisia, and Uganda.

Based on the Africa 7s, the latest tournament in which most teams have participated, Uganda Men and Women are the top seed in their respective categories. Their bronze medals, in Harare and Monastir respectively, were higher ranks than the rest of the teams’.

Additionally, both flew in straight from Montevideo in Uruguay mid-last week where they were competing in the World Rugby HSBC 7s Challenger. Therefore, it will be extremely disappointing should both teams leave Accra without adding gold medals to Team Uganda’s tally.

Rugby 7s at the 13th African Games will be played in a round-robin format over two days for the women’s and three days for the men’s competition. The winner will be determined by ranking according to most points collected after all the matches.
