- MUBS 1-1 UCU
Makerere University Business School (MUBS) were held by Uganda Christian University (UCU) in a one-all draw in the first leg of the University Football League on Thursday.
In a game played at Nakawa the hosts took the lead inside the first minute but the Cardinals found the equalizer in the second stanza.
Quick footed forward Sudhir Bin Saidi fired the home home side with a ground powerful ffort into the back of the net.
It was an electric start as the home side found an opener before the top of minute in the game as the home crowd got on top of their voices.
The visitors nearly responded as defender Innocent Zziwa nearly guided the ball into his net as he tried to block Peter Kyomuhendo’s throw pass.
Once again the Cardinals came knocking but Allan Opio nodded wide Isaac Ofoyirwoth’s sweet delivery infront the goal after 30 minutes.
At the stroke of the first stanza, Kyomuhendo’s cross towards the near post gave MUBS’s backline before Talibu Yokole’s timely clearance.
Yokole found himself in a prime area to double MUB’s leads through a freekick but the effort faced an equal challenge from Gaganga who was standing on the near post.
Second half substitute Derrick Tenywa failed to guide the ball into an empty net after being set up by Isaac Ofoyirwoth but the ball got glued in his feet.
Five minutes past the hour mark, the Cardinals skipper Gaganga found the leveller as he placed the ball on the far post leaving MUBS’ custodian Innocent Ayebale beaten helplessly.
With ten minutes to play, UCU’s Harry Abitti was tripped by Ayebale in the area but centre referee Henry Musisi denied the visitors a clear penalty.
Tenywa and Ofoyirwoth came close to giving the Cardinals the lead but Ayebale stepped up to keep the hosts in the lead.
The two sides will meet on Thursday March 29 at UCU in Mukono for the second leg of the semifinals tie.
