The Inspector General of Government Betty Kamya has ordered the release of the motorsport governing body, Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), bank account to enable smooth running of the Pearl of Africa Rally scheduled for this weekend in Jinja.

The IGG’s office closed the accounts on the claims by a whistleblower who alleged mismanagement of government funds by the current Executive Committee members.

The office of the IGG started investigations into the matter and on 26th April held a boardroom meeting with the FMU officials.

Pearl of Africa Rally was on the agenda of the meeting as lack of finances would ruin the running of the event.

“After the IGG listened to our issues, she concluded that the Pearl rally is more important than everyone else and it should not be sabotaged,” said a member of FMU who preferred anonymity.

“She requested that the Pearl rally budget be submitted to her office and funds be released immediately,” he added.

Another resolution was the continuation of the federation election; which eventually happened a day after the meeting.

The investigation will continue at the IGG’s office and a final resolution will be announced accordingly.

Hon. Jimmy Akena Obote was voted FMU President for the 2024-2028 tenure.

FMU still faces protracted governance woes with a pending court ruling on the process of establishing a constitutional review.

The decision was expected last month.
