Gulu High School was the biggest winner on Matchday 1 of the Boys Schools Cricket Week happening in Jinja as they defeated former champions Kings College Budo by 60 runs.

Kings College Budo is one of the pioneer schools of the annual schools’ championships but Gulu High School picked up a statement win for a school that started playing hardball cricket three years ago.

The Northern Region school put enough runs on the board to challenge the 2002 winners and in the end, got a resounding result. A morale-boosting win not just for the school but for a whole region that is embracing the game.

Defending Champions Jinja SS picked up two routine wins to take charge of Group A. The hosts are chasing back-to-back titles and the results should give them confidence as they chase the top spot in Group A.

Aga Khan picked up two wins as well to put them in charge of Group C after the action on the opening day.

Busoga College Mwiri laboured to a five-wicket win against Soroti SS chasing a low score. The record winners will be left with some doubts about their batting but will need to quickly move to make sure they make the Super Sixes.

The action continues tomorrow with the top two sides in three groups making the super sixes while the rest of the sides will play a plate event.
