The Libyan Football Federation has appointed Senegalese football legend Aliou Cissé as the new head coach of the men’s national team.
Cissé, who led Senegal to victory in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has signed a two-year contract that will keep him in charge until 2027.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, March 11, via the federation’s official social media platforms.
“We welcome the best coach in Africa,” the statement partly reads.

Cissé replaces Nasser Al-Hadhiri, who was appointed in September 2024.
Libya failed to qualify for the upcoming AFCON, set to take place in Morocco later this year. However, they will soon face Angola in the World Cup qualifiers scheduled for later this month.
According to Africa Soccer, Cissé will earn a monthly salary of €76,000 (approximately UGX 302 million), making him the second highest-paid coach in Africa, behind Algeria’s Vladimir Petković, who earns €135,000 (approximately UGX 537 million) per month.
