Uganda established a point lead over Kenya after the opening day action of the 2025 Victoria Cup at the Mt. Kipipiri Golf resort in Naivasha.
By close of business on the opening day, Uganda had 4.5 to Kenya’s 3.5 points.
During the four-ball format, Uganda won 3.5 to Kenya’s 0.5 point.
Joseph Reagan Akena and John Musiimenta shared the spoils with John Lejirma and Daniel Kiragu.
The Ugandan duo of Abdallah Kakooza and Titus Okwong beat Josphat Rono and Raphael Lemingani 3&1.
Team captain Joseph Cwinya-ai and Abdul Kakeeto edged Elvia Muigua and Kevin Anyien 2&1.
Elton Thembo and Ibrahim Ssemakula defeated Soni Tsevi and Krish Shah Beiju 3&2.
Kenya recovered to win the foursomes 3-1. Elvis Muigua and Krish Shah Beiju overcame Abdallah Kakooza and Anthony Otukei 3&2.
Akena combined with Peter Mayende to beat Krish and Lejirma 7&6, Kiragu and Rono won 5&3 over Kakeeto and Musiimenta.
Meanwhile, Raphael Lemingani and Ebill Omollo won 2&1 over Cwinya-ai and Ssemakula.
Friday’s action shall witness another foursomes’ action.
The first match up is between Muigua and Krish up against Kakooza and Okwong.
This will be followed by Rono and Kiragu versus Uganda’s Cwinya-ai and Ssemakula.
Lejirma and Kevin Anyien will square up against Musiimenta and Kakeeto before Ebill Omollo with Raphael Leming’ani will take on Joseph Reagan Akena playing alongside Peter Mayende.
Uganda is coached by female professional golfer Flavia Namakula.
Kenya, the reigning champion is coached by John Van Liefland.
Day three and the final round of action will be held on Saturday, 22nd March 2025 with the single’s action to determine the overall champion.
