After suffering a shocking midweek defeat to KIU Titans, KCCA Panthers bounced back on Saturday evening against Victoria University Crocs.

The Panthers (11-8) used a strong fourth quarter to record a 10-point victory against the Crocs (8-8) at YMCA in what was a close contest for large parts of the game.

Raymond Muhumuza’s charges started the game with intent, winning the opening quarter 20-12, but the athletic Crocs turned up the heat in the second quarter, holding the Panthers to just 9 points.

The Crocs continued to control the game in the third quarter, with the Panthers playing catch-up all quarter and trailed by just a couple of points (46-44) thanks to Steven Otoa’s pair of lay-ups in the final minute of the period.

The fourth quarter was a seesaw until the final three minutes, when Crocs went ice cold, shooting just 1-for-6 as KCCA pulled away for victory.

Congolese point guard Taussaint Mamppuya led the team effort with 11 points. Otoa contributed 10 points, and Davis Asiimwe chipped in with 8 points for the victors.

Meanwhile, all but one VU starter scored in double figures in a losing effort. Joshua Maliba had a game-high 15 points to go with 10 boards, Coul Nyuot contributed 12 points and picked up a game-high 18 rebounds, while Lola Minani netted 11 points.
