Overview:

Uganda has set in place all the necessities to have a successful championship with the main venue (Mandela National Stadium), training grounds, hotels, security, airport service, volunteers and other logistics all ready for operation.

Between 2nd to 30th August 2025, Africa and the rest of the world will switch their focus to the belated 2024 CHAN football competition, a tournament exclusively played by players in the respective domestic leagues.

This tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in five different major venues.

For the first time in the history of the competition, CHAN will be hosted by three countries.

Preparations by all the three countries to have a tranquil championship are in the final phase.

Addressing the journalists during a well attended press conference at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala, Dr Dennis Mugimba assured the country of the advance preparations.

Dr. Mugimba, the chairperson of the communications and signage CHAN/AFCON local organization sub-committee was joined by veteran journalist Mark Namanya, a communication manager on the committee and FUFA public relations officer Ahmed Hussein.

“We have reached the final stages and everything is well set.” Dr. Mugimba assured.

“The main venue at Mandela National Stadium, training grounds, hotels, volunteers (now in training) and other things are all in place” he added with a hint of the reception of the CAF advance team to work on the roads, towns and stadium signage.

Dr. Mugimba lauded the Government of Uganda for the Shs 1.3 trillion support to help in the tranquil organization of both the CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027 tournaments.

He pointed to the relevance of such a competition in fostering the regional cooperation and luring the rest of the people to Uganda, henceforth boosting tourism.

Mark Namanya, the media manager on the same committee outlined the tournament’s arrival to East Africa as a historic feat.

“This is history for the CHAN tournament as the first ever continental event to the co-hosted by three countries. It is a milestone moment for African football and a proud achievement to the nations” Namanya revealed.

Ahmed Hussein promised that Uganda will deliver a memorable and vibrant experience for all the people.

Hussein communicated that match day operations for the media will commence at the designated media center at the stadium before they will proceed inside to execute their different roles.

Uganda Cranes host Algeria on 4th August 2025 in Uganda’s first game of the championship.

In Group C, Uganda has Niger, Guinea, Algeria and South Africa.
