Morocco and Senegal face off in a highly anticipated semi-final clash at Mandela National stadium, Namboole on Tuesday with a final spot at stake.

Both teams eliminated co-hosts with Morocco getting rid of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam on Friday while the Lions of Teranga edged Uganda at Namboole on Friday – both matches decided by 1-0 score lines courtesy of second half goals.

Senegal, with arguably the youngest squad in the tournament but the best defence will face a stun test against the experienced North Africans who have scored the most goals (9) so far in the tournament.

“This is a young generation ready to write their own history,” Souleymane Diallo, the Senegal coach stated. “We will face a Moroccan team with very solid performance statistics, but we cannot underestimate the work being done in Senegal. Today, we present the youngest team in this competition,” he added.

His counterpart Coach Tarik Sektioui summed up the mood: “Tomorrow we have a very important game against a team that earned their qualification fairly. It won’t be easy; it will be a very, very tough game. Our goal is always to win this trophy in 2024, even with Senegal in the semi-final.”

The fixture embodies a battle of identities: North Africa’s structure and experience against West Africa’s youth and fearlessness.

Elsewhere, Sudan and Madagascar will face off hours earlier at Benjamin Mkapa stadium, Dar es Salaam in the first semi-final.
