Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) kicked off their 2025/2026 activity calendar with a level I coaching course at Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Nakawa in Kampala city.
The course was facilitated by International Woodball Federation (IWbF) certified instructor George Isabirye, attracting as many as 22 participants from the Kampala Central region and outside Kampala central.

This day long coaching course enlightened participants on the basic requirements and knowledge to play woodball and scoring system both in the Fairway and stroke formats of the game.
The Federation Secretary Adam Kato, noted that the course is part of the UWBF’s Strategic plan to build capacity by training more coaches who will disseminate the information and knowledge about the sport to the different stakeholders including schools and universities.

“Our focus is empowering sports tutors, games teachers so that we are able to spread the sport to the young generation and that is why we have more teachers in this coaching course,” Kato explained.
“Before we start the competitions we are going to organise more coaching courses from different regions and all the trainees receive level I certificates,” He added.
It is from these participants that the level II course will be organised as a way of lifting the quality and standard of coaches.

The participants were excited to learn new things and pledged to spread the sport in the institutions they are working and communities they stay in.
Uthman Wasswa, the sports officer Kasanda district was excited about getting a certificate in Level 1 coaching and vowed to upgrade to level II.
“It is a game I have never played. I came to get knowledge to take it to my area. Now that we have it on the school’s calendar,” Wasswa revealed.
“It is a very good sport because it has no age limit and we shall promote it in our area,” he added.

Monica Karungi from Mukono lauded the organisers for saying that it has changed their attitude towards the sport and they are now ready to spread the sport.
“The course has been very good because I have learnt the rules and many others which will help me implement to spread the sport,” Karungi said.
The next coaching course heads to Lira with a workshop taking place at Lira University in Lira district on Friday, 14th November 2025.
