NCS officials inspect the land spread across 100 acres at Sir Tito Winy College where the training ground for Hoima city stadium and the NCS academy will be constructed

Overview:

The National Council of Sports Academy will accomodate the football training field attached to the Hoima City stadium, another six training pitches for the academy itself, outdoor courts for basketball and volleyball, a hostel for visitors, gym, dormitories for resident students, classrooms and an administration block, and eventually a swimming pool.

A delegation from the National Council of Sports (NCS), led by the chairperson, Ambrose Tashobya, was in Hoima city on Wednesday, 26th November 2025, as part of the government of Uganda’s recent sports infrastructure development drive.

On this mission, Tashobya and his team inspected a 100-acre parcel of land at Sir Tito Winy College.

The Government of Uganda is looking forward to purchasing this land from the Bunyoro Kitara Diocese for the construction of a training field to be part of the cluster attached to the Hoima City Stadium.

The Hoima City stadium is one of the amenities earmarked to host the 2027 African Nations Cup (AFCON) tournament, a prerequisite of continental football governing body CAF where Uganda will host AFCON 2027 along with neighbours Kenya and Tanzania.

After the tournament, the National Council of Sports (NCS) has bold plans to expand the 100-acre project into a full-blown National Sports Academy, and Tashobya was taken around the huge expanse along with other Board Members Moses Anyii Omara, Cecilia Anyakoit, Piloya Evelyn Gloria and Stephen Kiprotich, and a team from the NCS Secretariat.

Just a few kilometres from Hoima City Stadium along the Hoima-Masindi Highway, this academy will accommodate the football training field attached to the Hoima City stadium, another six training pitches for the academy itself, outdoor courts for basketball and volleyball, a hostel for visitors, a gym, dormitories for resident students, classrooms and an administration block, and eventually a swimming pool.

From the academy land, the NCS delegation proceeded to the Hoima City Stadium itself, where contractor SUMMA took them on a tour of the pristine state-of-the-art facilities.

These range from the plush VIP and VVIP areas, through the multi-screen Venue Operations Centre, the Media Tribune and Mixed Zone, down to the 5-star rated pitch and its sprinklers, and on to the gym, Cafeteria and the Hoima City Indoor Arena with its newly fitted hoops, modern court surface and retractable seats.

Preparations are in high gear for the highly anticipated official handover of the facility to the government of Uganda, expected to be in a couple of weeks.
