Mbale based Kataka overcame fourth division team Garuga Stars 5-4 in post-match penalties to storm the round of 32 in the 2026 Stanbic Uganda Cup at the Cherish playground in Garuga, Katabi Town council – Wakiso District.

Normal time of this contest had ended goal-less as the game was decided by the post-match penalty shoot-out.

Captain Ahmed Biafulo, Abdallah Kabale, Marcus Aka, Richard Lempani and Ali Sentamu all scored past Garuga Stars substitute goalkeeper Jackson Kigozi.

Edrine Bukenya, skipper Lookman Kalule, Halid Musanyana and Juma Kizito were on target for Garuga Stars in the tense shoot out.

Gerald Yiga looked on in disbelief when his shot was saved by goalkeeper Ronald Nsubuga.

“This is a sweet victory and happy that I saved a penalty. Credit to the entire team, coaching staff and management” Nsubuga remarked after the game.

Meanwhile, Western regional side SC Volcanoes (Mutolere SC) who are coached by former Uganda Cranes midfielder Patrick Ochan ejected a second division (FUFA Big League) club, Wakiso Giants in Kisoro.

Normal time of this contest ended 2-goals apiece before SC Volcanoes held their nerves to win the shoot out 4-3.

Wakiso Giants took a 2-0 lead through goals by Kasozi and Pius Wanji in the 14th and 44th minutes respectively.

SC Volcanoes made quick amends when Julius Lukyamuzi pulled back a goal on the hour mark and the immensely gifted Sunny Kaija grabbed the equalized in the 75th minute.

Lukyamuzi, Derrick Menya, Davis Muheirwe and Henry Tumusiime converted for SC Volcanoes whilst Alex Mandera missed his kick.

Bashir Mutanda, Musa Matovu and Samson Kasozi were on target for Wakiso Giants as Duncan Sseninde and Pius Wanji missed their respective kicks.

In Lugazi, Kigezi Home Boyz won 2-1 on the road over Lugazi Nabugabo United during severe rainy conditions.

Timothy Beinomugisha struck a brace for Sadique Sempigi’s coached side.

The date for the round of 32 will be announced and the venue.

The winner of the Stanbic Uganda Cup earns a direct ticket to play at the CAF Confederation Cup.

Vipers Sports Club is the reigning champion.
