Uganda Premier League side Express FC has announced the signing of three new players as preparations for the new season hit high gear.
The Red Eagles are in the process of restructuring both on and off the field. On Friday, the club announced three new arrivals, namely: goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya, Shafik Batambuze and Derrick Ddungu aka Rickman Rickie.
The trio comes with experience, having played at different levels in different countries. For instance, Kigonya has had stints in Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Batambuze too has moved, especially across the region, playing in Kenya and Tanzania.
On the other hand, Ddungu had a short spell as a footballer in Sweden before sustaining a knee injury that has kept him out of competitive football for a long spell.
When his competitive football career was interrupted, he resorted to music, recording several hit songs in Uganda before later on becoming a radio presenter on 106.5 NRG Radio.
There are also reports that Alpha Thierry Ssali could be on his way back to the club from KCCA, where playing time has been minimal.
Express has already lured Isaac Wagoina into returning to the club after two years at BUL FC.
The 2026/27 Uganda Premier League is expected to start on 28th August.
