Police secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Kira Road Police Arena, Kamwokya on Tuesday.
Lawrence Tezikya broke the deadlock in the seventh minute after slotting home a left-footed, powerful strike, giving the home crowd a reason to jubilate.
Three minutes later, Patrick Kakande beat his marker but his final powerful effort went slightly wide of the target.
Frank Ssebuufu thought he had levelled matters for SC Villa in the 15th minute but it was flagged offside in a very tight call.
SC Villa kept pushing for a leveller but Daniel Jakony threw his body on the line to keep out Hassan Mayanja’s curling effort from the area.
In the 24th minute, Farouk Matovu rose highest in the area but his effort nodded off David Owori’s delivery kissed the frame before it went out.
Bedia Ikamba thought he had doubled Police’s lead after tapping home Tezikya’s cutback but the whistle was blown for a whistle.
In the second half, SC Villa threw bodies upfront but were not lethal enough to get anything positive from the game.
The victory takes Police to the fifth position with 35 points while SC Villa remain fourth with 38 points in 19 games.
