Young Africans (Yanga) maintained their momentum at the top of the table on Wednesday evening, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC) at the KMC Complex.
After a tense, scoreless first half, Ugandan star Allan Okello provided the decisive moment of magic.
In the second half, Okello latched onto a perfectly weighted pass from Shekhani Khamis and unleashed a low strike from the edge of the box.
The clinical finish pierced through a crowded KMC backline and settled into the back of the net.
The breakthrough was a relief for the visitors, who had been repeatedly denied by KMC goalkeeper Ismail Mpank.
Mpank produced a series of impressive saves throughout the match, keeping his side in the contest long after Yanga began to ramp up the pressure.
For much of the evening, the hosts managed to frustrate the league leaders by dominating possession and maintaining a disciplined defensive shape.
However, their resolve eventually crumbled under the weight of Yanga’s persistence.
The win cements Young Africans’ position at the summit of the league. They now sit on 51 points after 21 matches, successfully preserving the gap between themselves and their arch-rivals, Simba SC.
