Cameroon finally laid their hands of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after several years of trying. The Indomitable Lionesses cruised to a 3-0 win in the final played at Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat on Sunday.
A blistering start to the game saw Cameroon tear apart Malawi with all the three goals coming in the first half. Marie Ngah scored twice while Naomi Ndjoah Eto got the other goal.
Ngah fired Cameroon into the lead, scoring in the 20th minute before Ndjoah Eto doubled the advantage 10 minutes later. Ngah later added her second of the day three minutes into the stoppage time of the first half.
Before this year, Cameroon had failed in three different finals; 2004, 2014 and 2016.
Their triumph comes with hard work and endurance. In fact Cameroon had not qualified for the 2026 edition initially until when CAF decided to expand the tournament from 12 to 16 teams.
The remarkable journey has seen the Indomitable Lionesses go on to win the tournament unbeaten and didn’t concede a goal in normal time.
Cameroon become only the fourth side to win the title after Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.
