- Game 1: Uganda U-19 v Nigeria U-19
- RESULT: Nigeria 60/6 beat Uganda 59/7 by 4 wickets
Uganda’s Baby Victoria Pearls failed to pass the Nigerian test in the U19 Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers opener.
The youngsters won the toss and elected to bat first, but they were never allowed to get into second gear by the Nigerian slow-bowling options, with only Gringlish Nabulime (22) offering some resistance to help her side finish on a below-par 59/7 in their quota of 20 overs.
In the run chase, Nigeria started strong, scoring quickly against the second-over bowling of Michelle Ariago, from which they harvested 11 runs and in a low score that dented defense of Uganda.
SarahTino (5/13) was phenomenal with the ball, picking up a fiver from her quota of four overs, with Miriam Biribawa (1/11) picking the other wicket.
However, Nigeria was able to hold their nerve in the run chase and picked up a famous four-wicket win.
The loss for Uganda puts them on the back foot in their quest to finish among the top 2 in Group B, and they will need to win against Tanzania to stay alive in the tournament.
Tanzania defeated Malawi in the other Group B game.
