Uganda Hippos overcame Sudan 1-0 during Group B duel of the CECAFA U-20 Championship at the Uhuru stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, 19th September 2026.
Super substitute Amour Munogera scored the all-important goal on the evening.
Munogera, a player of Vipers Sports Club, needed just three minutes from his introduction to make an instant impact with the goal.
Before the goal, the contest had been balanced with either side pushing numbers ahead.
Sudan’s best moment came in the 35th half when forward Galal Omer had a shot saved by goalkeeper Adrian Isabirye.
Three minutes later, Sudan’s captain Waheed Shandi had a solo run thwarted by defender Gilbert Ogenrwot.
Isima Magala missed from close range after being set up by Derrick Ssozi on the stroke of half time as the opening stanza ended goal-less.
Steven Oyirwoth replaced Yashir Mimosa at the start of the second half.
Hippos’ defender Ogenrwot blocked a shot from Wail Galal Omer Alnour in the 52nd minute.
Sudan called for a double change on the hour mark.
Mutaz Elfaki Elnour Wali and Monzer Abdo Khmies Tiya replaced Ibrahim Samani Ibrahim Anglo and Wail Galal Omer Alnour respectively.
Uganda made their double substitution in the 67th minute. Amour Munogera came on for Genesis Ocen Odiya as Joseph Ssendyowa was introduced for captain Richard Okello .
Munogera needed three minutes to make an instant impact, beating the off-side trap to score past goalkeeper Mustafa Mohamed Elgadal Fahoud in the 71st minute.
Sudan lost captain Elbadri through injury as he limped out for Osman Abaker Ismail Alshaikh with a quarter an hour left on the clock.
Simon Wanyama was a late change for Derrick Ssozi as Uganda gallantly defended the lead.
Mohamed Mojtaba was brought on for Mazin Fadul Albahli Taowr.
Deep in the 5 added minutes, Magala was rested for Ashraf Kyakuwa in Uganda’s final change.
The early kick off between Kenya and South Sudan in Group C ended one-all. Jonathan Gem Ajoung put South Sudan in the lead after 26 minutes, assisted by Gonda Gboju and Kenya restored parity through Brighton Nacheri’s equalizer with Austine Musa Odongo.
