Henry Kalungi

Uganda Cranes defender Henry Kalungi last night agreed terms with Carolina Railhawks after passing a medical at the North American Soccer League (NASL). Kalungi who skippers Richmond Kickers in the United Soccer League Pro (USLPRO) will play for Railhawks until January for an unclosed fee. NASL is the first tier below the Major League Soccer (MLS), which is the top most league in the US.

“The USLPRO league is coming to an end this weekend and resumes in February,” Ivan Kakembo, Kalungi’s agent and brother told Kawowo Sports. “So he needed to stay active hence joining Railhawks until January,” Kakembo added. Railhawks though will have to wait to unveil to the fans since he is preparing to return to Uganda ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zambia on September 8.

Kalungi is likely to make his debut on September 12 when his new side takes on FC Edmonton at Clarke stadium.

The 24-year old made his cranes debut against Morocco in the LG cup, Burundi in the Cecafa Senior Challenge cup, Angola and Senegal in the Fifa 2014 World Cup qualifiers and twice against Congo Brazzaville in the 2013 Afcon qualifiers.
