The National Council of Sports (NCS) signed a binding memorandum of understanding with Kyambogo University to construct a state-of-art facility that will be used for Cricket and Oval.

The state minister of sports Hon. Peter Ogwang witnessed this momentous occasion between the two parties at the Kyambogo University council hall.

Hon. Ogwang hailed the leadership of both NCS and Kyambogo University for reaching such a common consensus.

“I bring you greetings from the First Lady and the Ministry of Education and Sports Mama Janet Museveni. I thank the NCS and Kyambogo University for reaching a common ground to develop a state-of-art Cricket Oval. Cricket is now a priority sport and has qualified for the World Cup. There is need for their own home ground” Minister Ogwang stated.

NCS board chair person Ambrose Tashobya, flanked by the general secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel and other staff led the visiting delegation.

Tashobya lauded the management of Kyambogo University for the positive response to allocate land for establishing a Cricket and Baseball stadium.

“As Lugogo Sports Complex is being developed, we needed land where we could put a state of art facility for Cricket and Basketaball. Kyambogo University has been very positive in all the negotiations until the day of the signing of MOU. The duration for the project will take 30 months.” Tashobya hinted.

Kyambogo University vice-chancellor Professor Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya, a distinguished leader in research and research management led the university staff.

Professor Katunguka expressed willingness to develop the sports infrastructure as he also politely asked for Government to release money for constructing a perimeter wall fencing around the vast Kyambogo University land.

“Kyambogo University has committed self to provide the land for the establishment of the Cricket and Baseball Oval. We shall work together to achieve this important milestone. We request to fence off the entire land to tame land grabbers and encroachers” Professor Katunguka remarked.

The estimated cost of the project is estimated to be over Ug.Shs 50 Billion and will last for two and a half years.

Hon. Ogwang confirmed that partners as Lyca-Mobile and others have already expressed interest to partner with Government in witnessing the project come to pass.

For the time Lugogo Sports Complex and Kyambogo grounds will be under construction, Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) will use ovals in Entebbe, Kamengo, Lugazi and Jinja.

Meanwhile, Kyambogo University has also committed self to provide land for the establishment of several football grounds that will be used for training for AFCON 2027 tournament.
