Tanzania national football team that started against Madagascar at CHAN 2024

Overview:

Tanzania has now won three games at CHAN 2024. The earlier wins over Burkina Faso (2-0) and Mauritania (1-0) on match day one and two respectively were added with the 2-1 win over Madagascar during their third match.

CHAN 2024 (Group B):

  • Central African Republic 0-1 Mauritania

Tanzania became the first country to progress to the quarterfinals at the ongoing CHAN 2024 tournament in East Africa.

Clement Mzize scored a brace as the tournament co-hosts overcame Madagascar 2-1 in Group B at the Benjamin Mpaka National Stadium, Dar es Salaam, on Saturday night.

Tanzania thus made it to the knockout round with a game to play.

Mzize, a Young African’s forward, scored in the 13th and 20th minutes of the game.

Mika Razafimahatana got the consolation for the islanders in the 34th minute.

This is the third victory for Tanzania after earlier wins over Burkina Faso (2-0) and Mauritania (1-0) on matchday one and two, respectively.

The Taifa Stars now have the maximum nine points out of the possible nine and sealed their qualification to the quarterfinals with a game to play against the Central African Republic (CAR).

Meanwhile, Mauritania recorded their first victory at CHAN 2024 during the early kick-off on Saturday, 9th August 2025.

This followed a slim 1-0 victory over the Central African Republic (CAR) in Group B at the Benjamin Mpaka National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Ahmed El Moctar scored the all-important goal in the 9th minute.

This was the first victory of Mauritania at CHAN 2024, which puts them on four points, second in group B after a loss, a victory and a draw.

CHAN 2024 continues on Sunday, 10th August 2025 in Group A.

Kenya plays Morocco in the early kick-off at Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.

The second game shall witness Zambia against Angola at the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.

The Championship of African Nations (CHAN) is played by players who ply their trade in the respective domestic leagues.
