Overview:

Delegates from 90 districts of Uganda graced the well attended elective congress as attended by James Kasumba, an administrator from the National Council of Sports (NCS) and Robert Jjagwe (executive committee member for Uganda Olympic Committee).

By 2030, Moses Muhangi will have made 14 years as president for the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF).

Another four-tenure confirmed by the electoral congress that convened on Sunday, 28th February 2026 at Ibamba Restaurant in Kamwokya, Kampala confirmed Muhangi as president, unopposed.

By 2:11 PM, the chairperson of the Uganda Boxing Federation Electoral Committee Paul Mukasa confirmed Muhangi as the duly elected president of Uganda Boxing Federation for the period 2026-2030.

“Pursuant to Article 13 of the constitution for Uganda Boxing Federation (2025) as amended and Article 24.1 of the Uganda Boxing Federation Electoral Code (2025), I hereby declared Moses Muhangi as president for the Uganda Boxing Federation and his entire executive as well as the committees for the period 2026 to 2030.” Mukasa remarked as the delegates chorused victory slogans.

The Electoral committee chairman was also flanked by Counsel Lydia Matte (secretary and Hon Zake Namuli.

“I am an ardent fan of boxing right from childhood. It is positive vibe to have boxing have an increment of funding from Government given the fruits of medals on the international scene. As National Council of Sports, we are coming up with regional arenas that will also have multi sports disciplines, including boxing” Kasumba hinted.

Muhangi vowed to continuously lobby for financial resources for the sport that has brought as many medals as possible on the international scene.

In the same vein, he promised to maintain the vibrant domestic competitions and further spread the game to the countryside.

“Boxing truly deserves an increment of financial funding from the central Government. The game of boxing is all over the country and we shall promote it further” Muhangi spoke.

He also highlighted the bold initiative of involving amateur and professional boxing and power of issuing licences for promoters, as mandated by the sports Act.

Meanwhile, his entire working executive committee and association members were also confirmed at the congress, all returning unopposed.

Sula Kamoga bounced back as vice president in charge of administration. Patrick Lihanda is in charge of technical docket again.

Simon Barigo returned unopposed as general secretary. Richard Muhumuza retained the treasurer seat.

The women representative is Rose Kabwama. Ex-Internationals’ Boxers Representative is Samuel Kabugo, the organizing Coordinator is Ibrahim Ssekizziyvu whilst Next Media journalist Martin Kaddu is the publicity secretary.

The different associations as Ring-side executive, Central, Northern, Kitara Western, Coaches and Para-Boxing were also confirmed.

Meanwhile; Gideon Kabanda is the chairperson of Disciplinary commission whilst Maureen Mulangira heads the PRO-Boxing Commission in Uganda Boxing Federation.
