For winning the 2015 UMOSPOC Independence Rally, speed experts Ronald Ssebuguzi (driver) and Leone Ssenyange (navigator) have been rewarded with the USPA October 2015 best sports personality of the month.
The rally crew tallied 480 votes to beat off a strong challenge from the CHAN Uganda Cranes team which scored 465 votes.
Prior to the start of the meeting held at Scarlet Hall in Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala, the members observed a moment of silence in memory of two fallen sporting icons, Harriet Apako (Netball and handball) and Hajj Juma Nkambwe (Motorsport).
Sebuguzi / Ssenyange shuffled through a wet Busika circuit to register the fastest time of 11 minutes, 29seconds during the super special stage section on day one to take an 18 seconds lead coming into the second day.
The crew registered a time of 2:18:08, topping Ranjeet Kuku/Musa Nsubuga (2:18:41) by just 33 seconds.
A visibly excited Ssenyange, a sports journalist himself attested to Kawowo Sports that the victory was the sweet reward of diligence.
We trailed the Kuku/Nsubuga crew by 5 solid minutes. Overturning such a big gap is momentous. It was unbelievable but achievable. Being a new pairing, it remains a landmark feat. Thank you USPA for the recognition
