
Africa’s number one badminton player Edwin Ekiring will make history when he takes part in the European Club Badminton Championships slated for May 29-June 2 in Pecs, Hungary.
“I am looking forward to making history at the European Club Badminton Championships with my club Amersfoort in that I will become the first Black player to feature at this major tournament and also the first from Africa,” Ekiring said recently. “It’s a great honour to make this history and too be the first to attain it and am taking it with both hands.”
The Ugandan badminton star plays for Amersfoort badminton club in the Dutch Badminton League and is one of the top clubs in Holland and Europe.
He has been instrumental in steering them to the European Club Championships. His club has been to the finals on three occassions.
“It’s a major European championship that brings the best of the best in Europe and I hope my club ends victorious,” Ekiring added. “It will be a good motivater for me going into the London Olympics.”
The All-Africa games badminton silver medalist is set to take part in two Olympic qualifier tournaments that is the Swiss and Poland International Badminton Championships.
