With many sports calendars commencing this month, the baseball league cannot lag behind. Tanaka Katsuhisa, Japanese by origin has been with Paul Wafula, Simon Karani, Jordan Lubega, Aaron Kirya, all from Sharing Fighters Baseball Club and Bernard Okello from Kyambogo Buffaloes Baseball Club in many training sessions since the start of this month doing the prevalent fitness drills and catching.
The national baseball league starts on tomorrow when Kyambogo Buffaloes host Nile Fighters, a Jinja side at Kyambogo. The event will start with an opening ceremony prior to the action. “The league was not held last year but we look forward to it this year” said 23 year old Aaron Kirya, a coach-player of Sharing Fighters.
“I think only two sides will be competitive in the league this season. The sport is growing nationwide especially among the youth” said the Japanese coach. The baseball federation in Uganda is in touch with other bodies in Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda so as to have a regional tournament this year.
