Omony, Owino Okhuti among 30 Cranes summoned by Bobby

Cranes coach Bobby Williamson on Wednesday morning summoned thirty players as the Cranes start preparations for the Afcon and 2014 world cup qualifiers next month. But three of those are Black Leopards’ custodian Posnet Omony, Azam defender/midfielder Joseph Owino and Bunamwaya’s wonder kid Ceasar Okhuti. The trio has not been involved with the national team for a while with Omony’s last appearance coming in the 2-1 Cranes win against Benin during the 2010 World cup qualifiers.

Owino suffered a hamstring in 2010 when Uganda drew 1-1 with Zambia yet Okhuti’s had returned much eelier against the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Egypt early this month. Cranes leading striker of the current generation Geoffrey Sserukma misses out as Williamson tries to create room for younger stars coming through, like Leonidas’ Fabian Kizito. But misfiring Geoffrey Masa has been retained.
Uganda plays Angola, Senegal and Congo Brazzaville in a space of 12 days with the first way on June 3. 22 of the players called up play outside Uganda. Majority ply their trade within the East African region. Williamson hopes to at least have 70% of his squad to tart training on Monday, May 21.
