Davis Kamoga is the last Ugandan to have won a medal at the Olympic Games.
It was in Atlanta, Georgia where he finished third after a final 150m kicker to set a national record of 44.92 enroute winning bronze in the 400m.
Starting in lane two, he was only beaten to the one lap race finish line by USA’s Micheal Johnson and Great Britain’s Roger Black.
Ever since then, 16 years down the road (Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008)), medals have eluded Uganda at the world’s biggest Games.
But Kamoga, in an interview with Kawowo Sports said there could be an upset or shocker in London.
“At least an athlete will surprise,” he said.
“I cannot rule out Moses Kipsiro, Stephen Kiprotich, Annet Negesa and even Dorcus Inzikuru” Kamoga, a silver medalist at the World Athletics Championships in 1997, Athens, added.
He said that just like him, when was not given a chance, he made at the world stage then.
The country will keep fingers crossed as the 16 athletes vie to break the 16 year jinx. Kamoga will be their mentor.
