Uganda cranes will on Sunday afternoon play Botswana in an international friendly game meant to shape the team ahead of the 2013 AFCON first leg qualifier against African Champions Zambia.
In the absence of Andrew Mwesigwa and Simeon Masaba, Turkish based Hassan Wasswa is to captain the side that is be without several key players that include among others Cyprus based striker Geoffrey Massa, Brian Umony, custodians Denis Onyango and winger Moses Oloya. These players couldn’t be released by their respective clubs since the friendly game is not on a Fifa sanctioned.
“These games are at times of less value since the team misses out on most of its core players but it’s a good test to those we intend to use for the Zambian game”, said national team Coach Bobby Williamson.
The game will also provide chance to players like Denis Guma, Robert Ssentongo, Steven Bengo and Samson Ceaser Okhuti to prove to the technical team that they are can vie for starting slots on the team.
This will be Uganda’s last warm up game before they pay a courtesy visit to Ndola to face Zambia at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in the first leg of the 2013 Nations Cup final round qualifier and will host the Chipolopolo in the second leg on September 12th at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.
The winner over two legs will qualify for the 2013 AFCON edition in South Africa.
