
The National half Marathon Championships due this weekend at the Mandela National Stadium Namboole willl be the last event on the Uganda Athletics Federation calendar.
But it has attracted numerous elite runners alongside fans who have registered for the Sunday event.
Martin Toroitich is the latest entry into the one-day event due to be flagged off by the London Olympic gold
medalist Stephen Kiprotich.
The others on the elite list include defending champions, Vanice Chemutai from Prison and Charles Matwoi, former champion Adero Nyakisi, Irene Chemusto (Prisons), Alex Chesakit and Ezekiel Chepkorom from UPDF as battle for the team title rivalry among the two forces re-opens.
However, the country’s top distance runners expecting to represent the country in the World Road Running Championships due October in Bulgaria are also expected to take part in the Sunday event.
Half Marathon Route
According to the route released, the 12km road race will start inside Mandela National Stadium – Namboole, Proceed Along Jinja Rd To Kyadondo Rugby Ground, Turn Left to ollow Mugalu Rd, Turn Right To Follow Port-Bell Rd, Rejoin Jinja Rd At Internal Affairs, proceed To The traffic lights, turn left to join Mukwano Round about, follow 6th Street, turn to join 5th Street, proceed along Port-Bell Rd to Bugolobi, to Kinawataka Rd to Kireka and back to Namboole Stadium.
Entry is still free and open to all interested participants including fan runners with registration taking place at the UAF Offices – Metropole House – Entebbe Rd. Closing date is however scheduled for August 31st, 2012 – 5pm.
All top 10 race finishers/ athletes (both men and women) will be awarded with prize money.
The National team to the 20th IAAF World Road Running Championships due October 6th, 2012 will be selected from the event results.
