Zanzibar 0-0 Eritrea
Last year’s quarter finalist Zanzibar settled for a goal less draw with Eritrea in the first game of group C played at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Monday afternoon.
The heroes of Zanzibar were the most brilliant side in the opening first 45 minutes and came close to scoring through danger man Amir Hamad Omar but were denied by some good goal keeping by Eritrea custodian Samuel Alazar who ensured that at least the match ends on level terms in the first half. After recess, the Eritreans grew in confidence and took the game to the Zanzibari attracting loud cheers from their watching fans.
In response, the Zanzibaris opened up making the game more attractive to the few watching spectators who welcomed each and every attempt with noise.
The final whistle meant that both teams settled for a barren draw; the first in the tournament. You can click here to view the latest CECAFA Group Tables
