Uganda Rowing Association (URA) has suspended troublesome president Denis Walusimbi Ssengendo for failure to honor federation major events according to Daily Monitor.
Walusmbi did not even attend the federation’s Special General Assembly at Country Resort Lake in Garuga over the weekend.
“I sent out communication to everyone but am disappointed that they are not here and didn’t bother to communicate,” URA general secretary Hamza Kahya told delegates.
It was at the assembly that a draft constitution was passed which ushered in Irene Kisule as the acting president after taking up the role of vice-president administration.
Solomon Muwonge takes over the treasurer from Raymond byabazaire who resigned last year.
Fredric Muhumuza and Farouk Baluku are the two executive members.
All this was done in the absence of Walusimbi and Charles Batambuzze who is in charge of the technical department.
“It’s because of that that we have resolved as the assembly to suspend Mr Walusimbi until further notice, for failing to attend major events of the association,” added Kahwa.
Wellness, Maroons, Lake Shores, Lakers, Nalubale, Defenders, Express rowing clubs all sent delegates to the Special General Assembly.
Green Belt and UPDF rowing clubs were absent.
Rowing has been around for 33 years but the sport is yet to announce themselves as a force in competitions, on a region or even continental level.
