MX1 reigning champion Maxime Van Pee is set for a knee surgery that will keep him out of competition for the rest of the season.

Van Pee suffered an injury while taking on the second practice of this year’s FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations in Botswana last month.

He fell off the bike as he landed on the jump injuring his knee.

The MX ace is now in Brussels, Belgium where he will go under the knife.

“Just touched down in Brussels for my very first surgery. A torn anterior cruciate ligament and medial meniscus of the left knee will keep me out of action for about six months,” reads his Facebook post.

Van Pee is currently leading the MX1 championship with 277 points; 104 points more than Asaf Natan.

He is already disappointed at the possibility of losing out on this year’s title.

“Very disappointed to have to sit out for so long and just watch my championship being taken away from me without even being able to fight back. But I will be back for them next season,” he added.

The sixth round of the MX is scheduled for 8th October in Garuga.
