Top flight football has returned to Masindi after more than a decade.

The Masindi Municipal Stadium will be home to Kitara Football Club after approval by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) competitions wing.

On Friday, 16 April 2021, the facility will host the highly anticipated Kitara versus Vipers clash on match day 18 of the Uganda Premier League.

This follows a lengthy period when Kitara have been hosting their home matches at the Kavumba Recreational Stadium.

Vipers made the distant trip on the eve of the match without their Burundian goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora who was red carded in the immediate past match against Busoga United.

Mutombora who slapped teammate Aziz Kayondo was sent off by referee Ali Kaddu moments after the final whistle.

He has since transformed the verbal apology to the teammate and the rest of the other players in ink for the awful act.

“I am sorry for having done such a bad act. I am sorry to Aziz Kayondo and the other players” he wrote on his official facebook page.

In his absence, Bashir Ssekagya is expected to fill the void and take on the responsibilities in the goalkeeping department as first choice alongside Dennis Kiggundu.

The Venoms have no room to slip given the stiff competition in the league as they share the summit with URA on 39 points apiece.

Fred Kajoba’s side is boosted by the return of Ibrahim Orit from accumulated cautions sit-down.

Orit will be joined by Milton Karisa who returned to action after an injury lay off with a goal against Busoga United.

Congolese goal scoring import Ceaser Manzoki,Yunus Ssentamu, Bobosi Byaruhanga, Karim Watambala, Paul Mucureezi, Livingstone Mulondo, Disan Galiwango, Richard Basangwa, Joseph Dhata and the stand in captain of late Paul Willa among others will be the other players Vipers will look for.

Kitara under Anthony Ssekitto as head coach would wish to play their hearts out at the new venue.

In goalkeeper Emmanuel Opio, Denis Monday, captain Maxwell Owachgui, Peter Lumoro, Yubu Bogere, Daniel Ekoyu, Phillip Ssempiira and the experienced legs of veteran defender Musa Docca, Kitara will pose some sort of resistance.

The first leg at St Mary’s Stadium – Kitende ended 2-1 in favour of the home side who scored late goals through Daniel Muzeyi Sserunkuma and Mucureezi to pull of maximum points.
