Legendary goalkeeper Denis Onyango will be in goal as Uganda Cranes lock horns with Botswana in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers encounter.

Onyango replaces Salim Magoola, who was the goalkeeper in the Cranes’ two previous games against Mozambique and Somalia.

The shot-stopper who plies his trade at Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa will have a much bigger assignment of motivating the boys whose hope of a slot to the World Cup lies on a thread.

Onyango led the Uganda Cranes to two AFCON Qualifications in 2017 and 2019, and his name will always be remembered as one of the country’s best football exports.

He returns to the goal shortly after Magoola was rumoured to have dealt with a knock sustained in one of his recent league matches.

Tobby Sibbick retains his position in the right back position after a great debut against Somalia. Aziz Kayondo’s quick feet will enable him to play in the left-back position.

Elio Capradossi and Jordan Obita’s partnership will be the Cranes’ heart of the backline. Kenneth Semakula and Khalid Aucho have maintained their positions as double blockers.

Jude Ssemugabi and Rogers Mato will play on the right and left flanks, respectively, while Allan Okello takes up the number 10 position.

Steven Mukwala has been entrusted with leading the attack for the Cranes during their away matches.
