The Lady Rugby Cranes clinched gold in the 2023 Safari 7s, marking their highest-ever finish in the competition.
In 2024, the Lady Cranes took two steps forward by sending a senior and an emerging side to the tournament. The sides finished 3rd and 5th respectively.
In that historical 2023 performance and result, Peace Lekuru, who was the captain then, emerged as the tournament’s top points scorer and Most Valuable Player. Now plying her trade at York Valkyrie Rugby League, she is a miss for the Lady Cranes, who now look to Agnes Nakuya for leadership.
The Lady Cranes begin their 2025 Safari 7s against familiar foes, the ladies from Belgium. The Cranes and Belgians have met in several Challenger Series, famously duelling in Dubai, where the Belgians won the group game, but the Cranes won the quarterfinal.
The Cranes wrap up their group action against Tunisia, before facing archrivals, the Kenya Lionesses, in the last game of Day 2.
