Uganda Premier League side BUL FC has officially completed its mid-season business, confirming the arrival of defender Ronald Madoi on a two-year contract.
The former Uganda Hippos standout becomes the sole addition for the Jinja-based side during this transfer window, signaling head coach Alex Isabirye’s intent to prioritize defensive stability for the second half of the UPL campaign.
Madoi returns to the Uganda Premier League with a wealth of experience despite his young age. After making his mark with Wakiso Giants, the defender moved to the Greek third-tier side SFK Pierikos in 2024.
Most recently, he had a stint in the United States with James Madison University, further honing his craft before deciding to return home.
For Coach Alex Isabirye, the signing was less about squad overhaul and more about tactical necessity.
Currently sitting eighth on the table with 23 points from 18 matches, BUL FC has struggled with consistency, and a thin defensive line was identified as a primary concern.
“We had few numbers in defense, and there was need to beef up the squad with someone with good attitude and character, and the right person was Madoi,” Isabirye stated.
“With him, we believe we shall have stability in defense. Madoi fits well in our style of play, and we are happy he is here.”
Madoi, who first rose to prominence at St. Mary’s Secondary School, Kitende where he anchored the defense during their 2023 National Schools Championship victory expressed his delight at joining the Eastern Giants.
“I am so grateful I am here because it is a dream come true for me,” Madoi told the club’s media.
“My target is to defend and work with my teammates to see that we take this team to glory days. To the fans out there, I promise to make you happy, and we will achieve this club’s success together.”
The timing of the signing couldn’t be better. BUL FC is preparing for a quick turnaround as they face Calvary FC in Njeru this Friday.
With the race for the top five still within reach, Madoi’s arrival provides Isabirye with a versatile option capable of playing under pressure.
